It’s
Thursday!! What a great day!!
Today’s
leader, Katie, efficiently took us through all of the calendar routines!
The Pre-schoolers left to work in their own room
and the JK’s and SK’s got right to work on doing a large floor puzzle of the
world. We were looking for Switzerland!
I saw and heard excellent cooperation and team work and there were many
questions asked, like
“Why are there penguins on this puzzle piece?”
and “Why is there a big deer on Canada?” We discovered how small
Switzerland is compared to Canada and how it is surrounded by 4 countries.
 |
| One group started working on putting all of the flags together to go across the bottom of the puzzle! |
 |
| We found CANADA! |
 |
| Another group put the time zone clocks together for the top edge! |
 |
| The plain blue ocean pieces were the hardest to fit. |
 |
All done - sitting "on top of the world!"
Following snack and recess,
the PS re-joined us to look at the many artifacts that Seth’s great-uncle had
lent to us. We liked the cast iron bell and the pewter cold water pitcher the
best! I also read the students a short story about a Swiss boy names Ursli, and
a bell that he wanted to wear in the “Winter’s End” Festival. The children
coloured a Swiss flag and donned a Swiss flag badge that Mrs. Wilks had made
for them.
French
time was a little shorter than usual today so that we could get washed up and
into the gym ready to eat by noon. We had an amazing assortment of food from Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany and Switzerland! Most of the children willingly participated in the meal. I was very impressed with how well they did with eating what they put on their plates! The Gr. 7/8 class once again did a wonderful job of looking after the food tables! Thank you to all families who were able to contribute to our meal today. ( We certainly had no need for anything more!)
In the afternoon we listened to some ALPHORN music on the computer. It was beautiful! Please see your child's picture of an alphorn in their agenda tonight! It was a great day of new information and I am glad we had the opportunity to do some investigating into an unfamiliar country! I hope the children will remember some of the things we talked about today.
Have a great evening!
