This morning we met everyone in the
gym for O’ Canada and opening exercises. We practiced patterning with Mr. P. Back in the classroom our leader Ethan
did a fantastic job doing calendar!
Jk and Sk students received a spelling list today. Please check the agenda! A test will be given on Friday. The words are based on "short a". Sk students have been given extra challenge words. Please watch the video below with your child to re-inforce the "short a" sound.
I have attached two links to my Dropbox account. Click on the links for more reinforcement using "short a" words. The first one is a 'sound/symbol' book and the second a 'short story'.

During phonics today the preschool children worked on their cutting skills to help further develop their fine motor skills. The JKs worked on identifying the letter Nn by colouring in the correct box on a chart of scrambled letters Using a highlighter). They also traced both the “N” and “n” on the same skill-sheet and then tried to write the letters without the dotted lines! The SKs worked on an "N,n" poster by gluing on pictures such as nest and nurse. They used inventive spelling skills to print the words associated with the pictures.
After recess Kate and Grace did
their show and share. Mme. V came to pick up the children for their French lesson. (Karmin had her turn later in the day) https://www.dropbox.com/s/9u4jvde146miq32/raz_ss_shorta_book_clr.pdf?dl=0

Today for the Unit of Inquiry the all students participated in a talk about the similarities between an apple and a pumpkin. We cut both an apple and a pumpkin, horizontally, to see how we could compare them. They both have a stem, skin, seeds, flesh/meat, and an "eye". The SKs did some brainstorming about pumpkins and made a brainstorming web on chart paper. Some of the pumpkin related words they came up with were: vine, soup, cake, pie, breads and all of the parts listed above!
Math: We compared 5 different pumpkins by determining what was the same and then what was different about all of them. Katie told the group that she had the knowledge that there would be seeds in each pumpkin because of previous experience with cutting pumpkins open (these were not her exact words!!) Then the students had to close their eyes while I moved all the pumpkins around. The children took turns arranging the pumkins in size from smallest to largest ( and Visa Versa)
Gym: We played with scooter boards for the first time this year and covered all of the rules for being safe. We experimented with different positions on the board and practiced moving in different ways.
